Welcome to another Mad4You Hostel’s Blog entry! In the past months we have told you all about where to have great dinner in the city or about a fun night out.
Still, we feel that we need to give you some good advices on where to listen to some quality live music. So keep on reading and your eyes will be thankful!
Berlín Café (Address: Costanilla de los Ángeles, 20, Metro: Santo Domingo)
One of Madrid’s most legendary night clubs, which recently reopened its doors. Their specialty is to gather the best jazz and flamenco artists but lately they have been also focusing on folk, soul and pop gigs.
Jam sessions are another big thing at Café Berlin and if you feel like partying all night, they often offer DJ-sessions that end at dawn.
This month, do not miss out on some pretty cool concerts from, for example, post rock band The Album Leaf, the Orchestra Social del Tango and the Cuban pianist Pepe Rivero.
Cafe Central (Address: Plaza del Angel, 10, Metro: Sol)
Located next to the super central Plaza Sana Ana square, Café Central was founded 30 years ago when a group of friends decided to rent an old establishment with the purpose of making it the next big Jazz venue.
The live shows are usually from 21:00 to 23:00 and the concept of the venue is to have the same band playing for the whole week so that the artists can play their repertory without the pressure of concentrating it in just one show.
We assure you: if you like jazz music this place is a must. For more info about the upcoming shows, visit: http://www.cafecentralmadrid.com/
El Junco (Address: Plaza Santa Bárbara, 10, Metro: Alonso Martínez)
El Junco is another very popular Jazz venue but it is also pretty big regarding other type of music, such as soul, reggae and Brazilian tunes. On Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursdays they offer very interesting jam sessions of soul and funk.
If you are looking for good vibes and a cozy vibrant venue, then the Junco is the right place for you. A drink is usually included with the entrance ticket and it gets pretty crowded after midnight, which, for sure, is going to make your night even more interesting.
This November (2016) do not miss out on live performances from The Dynamites (Rhythm & Blues) and from the American trumpeter Norman Hogue at El Junco.
Moby Dick (Address: Avenida de Brasil, 5, Metro: Santiago Bernabéu)
It is a little bit out of the way from the city center but totally worth the visit; this is one of the most genuine clubs of the capital and its agenda is full of music gems. It feels like stepping back into the 30’s with its wooden furniture and the overturned ship’s hull. It is pretty famous for its Halloween parties and its tributes to evergreen bands, such as The Cure.
In November (2016) Moby Dick is hosting Xania Rubinos, the Spanish band from Burgos Cronometro Budú and French composer Coeur de Pirate.
Sala El Sol (Address: Jardines, 3, Metro: Gran Vía)
This place has been open for 35 years now and it has been the witness of the craziness that went on during the years of the “movida madrileña”, which was basically a countercultural movement that took place during the Spanish transition after the death of dictator Francisco Franco
It is also a well known cocktail bar in the city and we do think it needs to be visited by our guests on their trip do Madrid. Do you like rock music? Then do not miss out on The Pretty Things, The Brew and The Boo Devils that are playing this month (November 2016).
Sala Caracol (Address: Bernardino Obregón, 18, Metro: Embajadores)
Situated in the super cool neighborhood of Lavapies (a very ethnic part of Madrid), this venue has hosted more than 4.000 concerts over time.
The best part about Sala Caracol is that they are eager on promoting emerging artists and new musical trends as well as hosting legendary groups (this month (November 2016) the punk band Death is playing). It is a great place to unwind and meet some true locals, as it is well known between the Madrilenian community.

Well, this is it for this month friends! We hope we have given you some useful tips that will satisfy your crave for live music… Anyway, as we have an open reception 24 hours a day and are always up for a chat about where to have fun in Madrid we will be very happy to suggest you more venues, more clubs and more concerts for during your stay in Madrid!
Cheers from the whole Mad4You Hostel Staff!
