Because this is our first article we want to explain you a little bit about what this blog is all about. Here, at Mad4You Hostel, we meet so many fantastic people and experience a lot of funny, surprising and also strange things. We want to share these things with you and also keep you up to date about new developments at the Hostel and our future plans. Also, for the people who don´t know us very well yet, we want to take this opportunity to tell you a little more about Mad4You Hostel in this article. You can look at it as a small introduction. 🙂
First we think that we should start with the heart of Mad4You Hostel: Our team. We believe that you cannot find a team as good and dedicated as ours here in Madrid. If you read our reviews you can see that all the guests that have stayed with us think we are awesome. This makes us so happy because we love each and every guest that comes to visit us. So let´s start with a little introduction of our team:
First of all there is our GM: Jane. She is 26 years old, from Holland and besides managing Mad4You Hostel she also works as a full time receptionist. Jane studied Hotel Management in Holland so she feels she is exactly where she should be at Mad4You. At the Hostel she is in charge of everything that goes on.
Then we would like to introduce you to our lovely Monica. She is from Marbella, Spain but has already been living in Madrid for a while. She is 26 years old and studied Hotel Management in Spain. At Mad4You she works as a full time receptionist and is responsible for groups and guest relations amongst many other things.
Stéphane is another one of our stars. He is almost 27 years old and comes from Canada. Stephane worked in many different sectors but before starting at Mad4You Hostel he was a tour guide in Madrid. At the Hostel he works as a full time receptionist and takes care of placing orders and maintenance.
Furthermore, we would like you to meet our Italian beauty Marta. She is 26 years old and comes from Milan. She works as a receptionist at the Hostel and also takes care of online marketing, partnerships with other hostels and guest relations support.
Then we would like to tell you about our two hero´s of the night: Hugo and Juanmi. Both from Spain and responsible for Mad4You Hostel´s reception at night. They are the ones that make sure you can check in after 12am and they also keep the hostel quiet between 12am and 8am for the people who appreciate a good night´s rest.
Last but most definitely not least, you should meet our cleaning team which consists of Cesar, Reynaldo and Ryno. All three of them came all the way from the Phillipines to Madrid to live and work here. Cesar is the main person in charge and Rino is the one that takes care of the breakfast. These guys are the ones that make sure you shower in a clean bathroom, sleep in a bed with freshly washed and ironed linen and even though you share a room with 8 people you still feel you are in a clean surrounding. 🙂
So, now that you have got to know all about our fantastic team we want to tell you a little about Mad4You Hostel itself. The building is from the 15th century and is a typical “corrala” from Madrid. For the ones who do not know what a corrala is: a type of building designed with a wooden frame of which the balconies of the houses are overlooking an interior courtyard. Mad4You Hostel opened its doors on 19 October 2013. Before, it used to be another hostel but the owners of the building decided to renovate the place completely and open Mad4You. The Hostel has 21 rooms and 105 guests beds. We have dormitories with 8-, 6-, 4- and 2 beds. On top of that, the hostel has double- and individual rooms. As you can see there is something to fit everyone´s needs. Almost all rooms have an ensuite bathroom and the rooms that do have a shared bathroom have the bathroom just two steps away from the room.
Mad4You Hostel has amazing common areas. First of all, there is of course the impressive interior courtyard filled with plants, a fountain, little tables and comfy seats to chill and hang out. Next to the courtyard there is the huge kitchen where you can literally find everything you might need to cook. The is a stove, an oven, two big fridges, two dishwashers and also plenty of utensils, such as pots and pans, bowls, plates, cutlery and much more. The kitchen has lots of little tables and one big table to eat, chat or just relax. Just above the reception there is a common room where we placed a big tv, very comfortable couches and a big table. People use this room to watch tv, take a nap, meet with friends, have a drink or play games. In the common room we also have a book shelf were guests can take, leave and/or borrow books. Near the common room there are public toilets for when the one in your dorm is occupied and just opposite there is a laundry room where you can wash and/or dry your clothes for a small fee. Next to our reception you can find the Mad4You bar with quite a nice selection of soft drinks, beers, liquor and some snacks for a very reasonable price. At the reception we have a computer with internet which our guests can use for free.
One of our main goals at Mad4You Hostel is making sure our guests feel at home, are comfortable and have the best experience possible in Madrid. To help provide that, our reception is open 24 hours a day and we are able to help our guests with almost anything they need. We also work together with the best tour-guide company in Madrid called MADRide. They organize free walking tours, tapas and flamenco nights and pub crawls. Every morning the MADRide tour guides come to the hostel to pick up our guests who want to join the free walking tour. On Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays one of the guides will come to the Hostel in evening and invite the guests who are interested to try some free sangria and after that, the ones that are in the mood to party can head out to join the pub crawl.
We believe that we have given you quite a good image of Mad4You Hostel but perhaps you are also curious about the types of travelers that visit our place. This is difficult to explain because we receive so many different types of people at the hostel. Mad4You does not maintain any age restrictions so people from all ages are welcome. But, as we are still a hostel, mainly young people between the age of 18 and 35 visit us and they literally come from all over the world. Sometimes it depends a little on the season but the highest numbers of Mad4You visitors come from Argentina, Brazil, Canada, Australia, South Korea and Germany. We find it so fascinating that we can meet all these people with their own cultures and their own languages coming to Madrid to learn about our culture and language. It also gives us great pleasure to see people from different nationalities getting to know each other at the Hostel and making new friends. We see them exchanging tips about Madrid but also travel advice and other interesting info.
Now you know all the general information there is to know about Mad4You Hostel. Every month we will post a new article on our blog and we promise you it will be very interesting. We will share some useful travel tips with you, discuss interesting travel phenomenons like ¨wanderlust¨ and ¨cultural shock¨ and also share some of the most interesting and shocking things we have experienced at the hostel, as this is something a lot of people are curious about.
