Visiting Spain and not trying some Spanish tapas would be like going to the cinema and closing your eyes throughout the whole movie. It does not make much sense, does it?
And we know very well that travelling can be pricey sometimes. No matter what, you deserve to have some good food: whether you are on a budget or not. So, in our new blog we are more than delighted to introduce you a list of bars/restaurants that offer free tapas when you order a drink (which is commonly beer or sangria).
Spanish generosity at its best!
El Tigre (Calle de Las Infantas, 25): The legend says that El Tigre is the most popular (and cheapest) tapas bar in town. And we could not agree more! No wonder it is usually quite packed, sometimes way too packed, especially at weekends. So, just a friendly reminder from us: If you do not enjoy crowded places, beware! Because, so many people are after El Tigre´s tapas which are served in big plates and all for free if you order a drink. The typical tapas that you will find in El Tigre are patatas bravas (potatoes with brava sauce), pieces of bread with jamon Serrano or manchego cheese and croquets. We believe that you are already convinced but there is one more thing that we would like to add: It is only 15 minutes walking from Mad4You Hostel!
Indalo Tapas Chueca (Calle Pérez Galdós, 7): Our second recommendation is only 10 minutes walking from our hostel and it is situated in the cool neighborhood of Chueca! Indalo Tapas offers a great variety of tapas with every drink you order: croquettes, tortilla, fried eggs with ham, Russian salad, potatoes… By the time you get to your third drink, you will be pretty full (and that is the only problem you will be having)
El Respiro (Calle de Las Infantas, 34): Here is another marvelous tapas bar right in the center of Madrid! Their friendly staff will be bringing you different free tapas every time you order a drink, how does it sound?
Restaurante La Blanca Paloma (Calle del Espíritu Santo, 21): Feeling too lazy to walk? La Blanca Paloma is only 3 minutes away from our hostel and offers a great variety of free tapas such as meatballs, potatoes, fried eggs, aubergines with their reasonably priced drinks. Definitely a good place for a group of friends, as well.
Taberna La Nueva (Calle de Arapiles, 7): Situated near metro Quevedo, this authentic small tavern offers a cozy atmosphere with some good tapas and delicious wine. Here goes an extra recommendation: do not forget to try vermouth once you are in La Nueva, which is so typical of a Spanish tavern bar. Enjoy the best of both worlds
Petisqueira (Calle Churruca, 6): Let us introduce you one of the beauties of our lovely neighborhood, Malasaña! Petisqueira is perfect for small groups or families and they are very very generous with tapas. What else can you ask for?
Los amigos (Calle de las Conchas, 6): Homemade food in the heart of Madrid? If that is what you are looking for, Los Amigos will not let you down. It has a terrace which is a plus if you happen to come by in summer. If not, do not worry as the interior part is quite cozy as well. Here is the best part about Los Amigos: They can surprise you with paella as “free tapa” which is perfect if you have never tried it!
We hope that our post helps you discover the best free tapas in Madrid!
